Welcome To Mama Aura Wellness- My Journey
Whitney Sankovsky | OCT 27, 2022
Hi I’m Whitney! Glad you're here!
Here's my story of who I am and how Mama Aura Wellness was born!
I'm a former kindergarten educator with a masters degree, prenatal yoga teacher, certified baby massage expert, early childhood developmental specialist and I guess you could say- aspiring mother. I've been working with babies, children and their families for the entirety of my post university professional life and loving every minute of it.
I'm living life by the sea in Costa Rica. At 32, I decided to leave EVERYTHING behind in Los Angeles California in pursuit of living a more peaceful natural aligned life. While it all sounds spontaneous and amazing, it wasn't always rainbows and butterflies. Being an expat was lonely at times. I missed my family. I couldn't always communicate to have my needs met due to the language barrier. I struggled to figure out how to pursue my passions and live my dharma and also pay for rent and groceries.
When I first moved to Costa Rica, I decided to take a job as a Kindergarten teacher. During my second year, the pandemic hit. Enter further isolation. While we tried to navigate virtual learning, we were all craving the in person connection I valued so deeply. I used everything I learned during my Busy Being Kids YTT to help my students learn how to relax, regulate and refocus during their busy and ever-changing almost 6 hr zoom days. Fast forward a few months- like many other teachers, I was completely burnt out and starting to lose enjoyment for the very thing I had done for the past 12 years. I remember thinking "This is NOT what I came to Costa Rica for." Yet again, I took another leap of faith and quit my job in pursuit of my true passion. But what was it?
I knew that I wanted to continue to teach in some form and I wanted to work with children and families. Following my intuition and love of yoga, I went on to get certified in Baby Yoga and then in Infant Massage. A large part of these program was learning how to hold safe spaces and support new mothers, as they are going through an array of changes, growth and challenges- which I LOVED. But that got me thinking... the journey and connection to their baby doesn't just start at birth. It starts at conception! And if we really want to support expecting mamas and new mamas- we need to start there!
I felt this could best be accomplished through a prenatal yoga teacher training and so I went on to receive my 85hr PYT certification through School Yoga Institute. I would learn about the physical, mental, energetic and spiritual transition into motherhood. I would learn how to create a safe space for mothers to show up, join a community of other mamas, be free to ask questions without judgement, move and connect with their body and baby, lower their stress levels and increase their joy through movement, breath, meditation and soul talks. One of the requirements of the training was to come up with a proposal- How will you use what you've learned and share it with your community and the world? Boom! The idea for Mama Aura Wellness was born and shared under the waterfalls of Montezuma, Costa Rica.
After lots of trial and error, tears, growth and lessons learned- I'm finally putting all of my knowledge and passions together to create this special space. All of my decisions in life have been heart led- and deciding to start Mama Aura Wellness is no exception.
Expecting mama? Postpartum mama? Adoptive mama? Aspiring mama? There’s something special in this space for each of you and all are welcome here.
My goal is to create safe spaces, free from judgement to support you, your body, your mind and your baby as you journey from conception, through birth and postpartum. Â Every class is rich in the theme of CONNECTION. Â
If this resonates with you- keep following, I invite you to become a part of this space.
Love and Light,
-Whitney
